Problem
Lee, a veteran living on a fixed income, encountered an unexpected financial challenge after his automobile insurance policy lapsed. Action
A Regional Coordinator with Virginia Veteran and Family Support (VVFS) reviewed Lee's circumstances and verified that the hardship resulted from a combination of increased insurance costs and confusion over the initial payment schedule. Recognizing that the situation could quickly worsen if coverage lapsed again, VVFS requested emergency financial assistance.
The request was referred to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 227, where emergency financial assistance made possible through charitable contributions to the Northern Virginia Vietnam Veterans Foundation (NVVVF) was approved to help bring the automobile insurance policy current.
Outcome & Impact
The one-time grant helped Lee restore his automobile insurance and relieved the immediate financial pressure created by the higher premium. By resolving the overdue balance, the assistance helped protect his ability to maintain reliable transportation while living on a fixed income.
Through the partnership of VVFS, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 227, and the Northern Virginia Vietnam Veterans Foundation, a relatively small grant prevented a temporary financial setback from becoming a larger obstacle.
